Final theses

Dept. III: Finance

Here you will find all the necessary information about bachelor- and mastertheses at the Department of Finance.

Thank you for your interest in writing your final thesis at our chair! We are happy to supervise your thesis.

We do not offer predefined topics on our website. Please contact us - if you want with a general area of interest - via the contact form below. The supervisor will find a topic that fits your interests together with you.

Current areas of focus are:

  • Our current research topics: frictions in asset markets, design and regulation of financial markets, asset pricing and investment funds
  • Topics addressed in our courses
  • Your own topic suggestions, possibly in cooperation with external institutions

The focus of our chair is on empirical research. Therefore, the theses at our chair are usually also empirical theses. An empirical data analysis is an essential part of your thesis at our department.

Procedure for final theses at the Department of Finance

  • The formal prerequisites for the registration of your thesis can differ depending on your program and the examination regulations. Please find the relevant information in your exam regulation.
  • We recommend to attend at least one of our specializations before starting your thesis at our chair.

If you meet the prerequisites for starting your final thesis, you can use our contact form to get in touch with us. Currently, there are no application deadlines. Depending on your preferred topic, one of our team members will approach you as soon as possible and clarify possible research questions with you.

Once you and your supervisor have set your topic and a (preliminary) outline of your thesis, you can fill in the registration form (see here) and send it to your supervisor for signature. The date on that form ist the starting date of your thesis.

During the processing time, you will work independently and according to scientific methods on a task from the field of finance and present the results of your work appropriately. Your supervisor will be available to support and advise you.

Please note the citation rules.

The Writing Center offers courses and advise on scientific writing.
