Business Capabilities and Business Models in Industry 4.0

Dept. VII: Information Systems I

Nowadays, it is not uncommon that the terms Industrie 4.0, Advanced Manufacturing, Internet of Things (IoT) und cyber-physical systems are used in a promotional context and are strikingly applied to new concepts in different domains. Although many of the definitions regarding the terms are neither unambiguous nor without any overlaps, they are of enourmous importance to the strategic direction as well as to the technical and organizational design of industrial enterprises.

Successful solutions however are not isolated in individual domains, but are merely expected when a target-oriented interaction of the art of engineering, information technology and management takes place. Therefore, the chair of Information Systems I addresses „Business Capabilities“ in its praxis-oriented research, which enables industrial enterprises to successfully implement strategies and business models based on Industry 4.0.
