Procedure for the assignment of a thesis at the Chair of International and Strategic Management
Up to three desired topics can be selected from a list of topics compiled by the chair and put in a priority-oriented order. The password to open the document can be obtained on request at the chair secretariat (lehrstuhl.intman@bwi.uni-stuttgart.de) by giving your name and matriculation number.
For the topic with the highest priority, a one-page exposé must be prepared including the specific problem, research objective, research gap and the possible method to achieve the objective; the exposé must be backed up with scientific literature sources.
The application for a thesis can be submitted until March 31 (for the summer term) or September 30 (for the winter term).
The assignment of topics is made by the chair and will be communicated in the first week of the respective term.
You can withdraw from the assigned topic within two weeks without giving reasons. In this case, it is only possible to write a final thesis again in the following term.
Students can also submit their own topic suggestions and proposals for a thesis in cooperation with companies. In these cases, too, a corresponding exposé must be prepared.
Please make sure that your application for a thesis includes your first and last name, your matriculation number, the exposé and a current grade statement. Please send the application by e-mail to Ms. Jennifer Jüngling, M.Sc. (jennifer.juengling@bwi.uni-stuttgart.de).
The processing time begins after consultation with the respective supervisor.
The list of topics for the final theses in summer semester 2020 can be found here.
The application form for a thesis can be found here.
Guidelines for the formatting of written papers
The guidelines for the submission of final theses are set out in your examination regulations.
Please refer to the chair's citation guidelines for the formal design of your academic paper.
General Procedure:
- Structuring: After the concrete subject of your paper has been determined the outline has to be created. This process should take place within four to six weeks and has to be hamonized with your adviser. If you didn't complete the seminar at our Chair a first orientation is given in the citation guidelines. If you took part in a seminar, the creation of the outline is analogous.
- Announcement of the thesis: If the structure is entire and comprehensible, you have to collect the application form from the examination office and fill it in. There it will be accredited, that you have the needed credits to announce your Bachelor thesis. This form you have to hand over to the Chair, to record the title of the thesis and the date of award and that Prof. Oesterle can sign the form.
- Editing time: After the announcement respectively with the date of award the editing time of 12 weeks begins. You have to consider the citation guidelines of the Chair when writing your thesis. The requested number of pages is 40 pages +/- 10%.
- Delivery of the thesis: You have to submit the thesis appropriate to examination regulations on the due date at the examination office or at the Chair in hardcopy form and electronic. The examination office transmits two examples to the chair, to correct them and one example to the examination board.
- Correction: The Chair corrects the thesis. Another Professor from the Institute of Business Administration provides the second opinion. As soon as first- and second opinion are available, the title in German and English as well as the note will be published in C@mpus.
